The Knights of Rizal is a knightly order founded on 30 December 1911 by Colonel Antonio C. Torres in honor of the Philippine national hero Dr. José Rizal. It is the only knightly order officially recognized by the Philippine government—legally confirmed by Republic Act 646 on 14 June 1951—and its insignia is recognized under the country’s Honors Code. The order unites over 25,000 members across more than 190 chapters worldwide. Its members, who bear the title “Sir,” are dedicated to promoting Rizal’s ideals—education, social justice, and patriotism—through cultural, educational, and charitable activities.

As part of the consulate, we would like to point out that it is always necessary to make an appointment by e-mail. Phone appointments are not possible during this period.

Upon arrival, passengers are required to monitor their health for seven days, with an emphasis on the symptoms of Covid-19. They are also required to report symptoms to the local government unit of destination. However, the Philippine authorities do not require mandatory quarantine for fully vaccinated foreigners with a recognised vaccination certificate who tested negative for RT-PCR shortly before departure.

Based on IATF Resolution No. 159, foreign tourists will be allowed to enter the country, provided that their passports are valid for at least six months at the time of arrival, and they possess outbound tickets to their country of origin or next country of destination

Passengers must carry “proofs of vaccination” against Covid-19 that are recognized by the IATF-EID. They include certificates of vaccination issued by the World Health Organization (WHO), VaxCertPH of the Department of Health, and a national/state digital certificate of a foreign government that has accepted VaxCertPH under a reciprocal arrangement unless otherwise permitted by the IATF .

Children under 18 years of age are exempted from the full vaccination requirement.

The holiday was introduced in the Philippines already in 1931 when it was decreed by law to celebrate the last Sunday of August each year, in 2007 the new law moved the holiday to the last Monday of August, because the government wanted to introduce long weekends for its citizens.

Ninoy was a politician, senator and opposition critic of President Marcos, for which he was sent to prison for eight years. Ninoy was the husband of Corazon Aquino, who later became president of the Philippines. His only son was the this year sadly deceased Benigno Aquino III, who was also President of the Philippines. An international airport in the capital of the Philippines, Manila, was named in Ninoy‘s honor. 

The murder of Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino on 25th February 1986 led to subsequent revolutionary demonstrations by the Filipino people and thus the collapse of the government of Ferdinand Marcos. 

This holiday is not a typical Philippine national holiday, but is defined as a so-called special non-working holiday.

He was elected as a president in 2010 as the 15th in line, until 2016. Before he became president he was a member of Parliament and then a senator. He came from a family of politicians, he was the son of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino. 

He left a significant mark on Philippine history and foreign policy. During his reign the country’s economic situation improved the most in decades, he governed with a sense of patriotism, devotion and professionalism, and gained international respect for his country. 

He died after a long illness.
