Benigno Aquino III died on Thursday 24 June.

Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino III, also known as Noynoy, died at the age of 61 on Thursday 24 June. 

He was elected as a president in 2010 as the 15th in line, until 2016. Before he became president he was a member of Parliament and then a senator. He came from a family of politicians, he was the son of former Philippine President Corazon Aquino. 

He left a significant mark on Philippine history and foreign policy. During his reign the country’s economic situation improved the most in decades, he governed with a sense of patriotism, devotion and professionalism, and gained international respect for his country. 

He died after a long illness.
