Socioeconomic agenda of Philippine President Duterte

Team of the new-elected president Duterte published an outline of the economic program of the new government. As stated by the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Manila, individual points highlight the intention to maintain the continuity of the main pillars of the economy of the former government, with some shift to the left side, and the effort to promote some liberal measures. In these strategic points, the president does not forget the individual regions nor the poorest people in the country.

The 10-point socioeconomic agenda:

  • Maintaining the current macroeconomic policy. Reform of the system of tax collection.
  • Speeding up infrastructure investments, particularly by removing barriers to investment (up to 5% of GDP per year).
  • Make Philippines more attractive to foreign investors, increasing the country’s competitiveness and safety.
  • Support for small farmers. Promoting tourism in rural areas.
  • Simplifying the system of land administration.
  • Investment in human capital development.
  • Improved tax collection indexed according to inflation.
  • Extending the program of subsidies for poor families – the so-called Conditional Cash Transfer.
  • Support for science, innovation and technology to promote sustainable development of the country.
  • Strengthen implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Law

Further plans of new president include:

  • Fighting crime and corruption
  • Changing the state system to federation
  • Rapid adoption of the Law on Free Access to Information (Freedom of Information Bill)
  • Issuing documents under state authorities within 72 hours
  • Extending the public health insurance system
